During early January 1983, Pat was walking to Waitrose when she met Jean Mercer (No 39) on the way. They started talking about not knowing neighbours after living here all these years, and Pat suggested they form a Neighbourhood Association. "Good idea", said Jean.
In Waitrose Jean introduced Pat to Isobel McGilvray (No 33) and they told her about Pat's idea and asked her if she would be interested to join such an Association. Isobel was all for it, so Pat said she would set up a meeting and suggested they bring anyone else who might be interested.
Back at home Pat became even more enthused about her idea and rang Ralph Wade (No 24). He gave an enthusiastic response and said he would bring someone to the meeting.
The Initiating Group of the Street Asso met at 34c on 18th January 1983. Jean Mercer brought Ann Mangan (No 33) Isobel was present and Ralph Wade brought Mayer Hillman (No 7A).
And today, 30 years later, the NNA is still going strong. Whilst Pat has recently moved to a care home near her son, Mayer is still on the committee. The Association continues to achieve what it hoped to be 40 years before: an Association of friends and neighbours who worked hard to make the Netherhall neighbourhood a friendly, safe, calm, and lovely place to live.
